Fuel Your Career is designed to inform industrial construction foremen and contractor management about best practices that can be used to help grow crew leader skills. These best practices have been developed by the Construction Owners Association of Alberta as part of their suite of best practices designed to improve construction safety and project success of industrial construction projects in Alberta.

Foremen have a significant impact on the project's schedule, cost, and profitability. Responsibilities of a foreman are becoming more comprehensive and include:

Maintaining workplace safety
Building and developing crews into teams
Leading and motivating the crew
Resolving workplace conflicts
Administering company policies and procedures
Planning and organizing work to meet production goals
Meeting productivity targets
Completing required reports and other documentation

Foremen and contractor management can use these best practices to help transition from being on the tools to developing strong leadership and supervisory skills. Experienced foremen will also find resources to enhance their skills and career as leaders.
